Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking thoughtful, forward-looking members who care deeply about their community and want to contribute their perspective and experience. You don’t need prior board experience. What matters most is curiosity, collaboration, and a genuine interest in helping SMW grow responsibly.
Board members play a vital governance role by:
- Helping guide long-term strategy
- Ensuring financial strength and sound decision-making
- Upholding cooperative values and member trust
Experience in areas like finance, business leadership, technology, marketing, human resources, or community involvement is helpful, but not required. Diverse perspectives make our board stronger.

What the Commitment Looks Like
Board service is designed to be manageable while still impactful:
- Attend monthly board meetings, typically held at 4 p.m. on the third Tuesday
- Complete approximately three hours of annual training
- Attend the annual meeting
- Maintain confidentiality and always act in the best interests of members
